Stress Fracture

What is it? They are tiny cracks in the bones.

What is it caused by? Caused by repetitive force, often from overuse.

What are the symptoms? Pain, tenderness and swelling.

How do I manage it? Stop the activity causing the pain, applying ice and resting.



Pars Defect

What is it? A stress fracture of the bones of the lower spine.

What is it caused by? Typically causes due to overuse of the spine. They can be on one, or both, sides of the vertebra.

What are the symptoms? Pain and stiffness in the center lower back.

How do I manage it? Some people need surgery to stabilize the spine. Physiotherapy concentrating on strengthening muscles and ligaments around the spine.




Scapular Dyskinesia

What is it? Abnormal movement of the shoulder blade.

What is it caused by? Weakness, imbalance, tightness, or detachment of the muscles that control the scapula.

What are the symptoms? Pain, tenderness, feeling a snap or pop that occurs with shoulder movement, loss of strength, changes in posture and shoulder blades seeming out of place.

How do I manage it? Exercise with a physiotherapist to help gently restore range of motion and strength.



Thoracic Dyskinesia

What is it? The upper back is not mobile enough or has areas that are stiff.

What is it caused by? Commonly found in athletic individuals.

What are the symptoms? Weakness or stiffness in the muscles surrounding the shoulder blade.

How do I manage it? A hands-on and progressive exercise routine that will allow for an optimal length and strength relationship between the muscles.






Pitchers Shoulder

What is it? It is an overuse injury.

What is it caused by? Caused by an increased load placed upon the rotator cuff.

What are the symptoms? A pitcher may feel that their shoulder is coming out of the socket or is loose. Throwing pain is typically caused by inflamed rotator cuff tendons.

How do I manage it? Rehabilitation exercises.



Finger Fracture

What is it? A broken (fractured) finger.

What is it caused by? Occurs as the result of an injury to the hand.

What are the symptoms? Pain, swelling, tenderness, bruising, deformity and reduced ability to move the finger.

How do I manage it? Rehabilitation exercises to reduce the finger’s swelling and stiffness.
