Nerve Root Compression

What is it? Occurs when a nerve is squeezed or compacted.

What is it caused by? When a bone, tendon or ligament presses against a nerve.

What are the symptoms? Pain, numbness and muscle weakness at the site of the nerve.

How do I manage it? Gentle strengthening and stretching exercises.





Morton’s Neuroma

What is it? The nerve in your foot is irritated or damaged.

What is it caused by? Often caused by shoes that are too tight or that have high heels.

What are the symptoms? A shooting, stabbing or burning pain in your foot.

How do I manage it? Rest and raise your foot, apply ice and gentle strengthening exercises.






Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

What is it? A painful condition of the hands and fingers caused by a compression of a major nerve where it passes over the carpal bones through a passage at the front of the wrist.

What is it caused by? Continual repetitive movements or by fluid retention.

What are the symptoms? Tingling, numbness or weakness.

How do I manage it? Wrist splint, medications and/ or surgery.







Scaphoid Fracture

What is it? A break in one of the small bones of the wrist.

What is it caused by? This most commonly occurs after a fall onto an outstretched hand.

What are the symptoms? Pain and tenderness in the area just below the base of the thumb.

How do I manage it? Gentle flexion and extension exercises to the thumb to build strength. Continue elbow and shoulder exercises.








Boxer’s Thumb

What is it? A break in a metacarpal bone that connects the ring finger or the little finger to the wrist.

What is it caused by? The injury can result from a single blow or repetitive blowers over time.

What are the symptoms? Pain, bruising, swelling, tenderness and inability to move the pinky or ring finger.

How do I manage it? Exercises to regain strength and use of your hand.
